Artists Create Original Art

How did you use your own unique ideas in your work? My idea was to combine two popular subjects into one piece. I combined the game flappy bird with the Twitter logo.

Did you use a source for inspiration, then combine it with your own ideas to make it original.Yes, my inspiration was flappy bird and twitter. I drew the tubes in flappy bird and I replaced the bird with the Twitter bird.

Artists Develop Art Making Skills

Did you learn new techniques or processes as part of the work for this project? I have done printmaking before but I got a refresher on how to do the whole process.

Did you gain skill with familiar materials? Yes, at first I didn't know how to use the carving tool very well but then I got the hang of it and learned that if you dig deeper for the white areas then there wont be extra lines on the paper you print on.

GIF

The women's GIF (her hand) relates to her because it is something that she thinks of when thinking about herself. Her hand cramps up a lot when drawing so she did a series of drawings of her hand clenching and unclenching. I chose to do me lifting weights to symbolize the going to the gym. I think of the gym because I have been trying to get fit.

Color Project

Progress
I chose the theme creature for my color project because I wanted to do something with animals. So I decided on drawing fox. I colored my fox with chalk pastel because when I used that medium with another drawing it looked really good. The chalk pastel was good for blending the colors of the foxes fur. At first I had trouble getting the colors of the fur to blend and become dark enough but after I worked with it for a while it all started to come together.

Finished
My picture of a fox was successful because it fits the theme creature. I am most proud of the way I blended the colors of the fox. If I could go back and change one thing I would probably make my fox a little bigger and add more color variations in his fur. From this project I learned how to use and blend chalk pastel.

Two in One

In Progress
My "Two in One" project incorporates a snake and a lollipop into one piece. The snakes body represents the top of the lollipop. I am using a graphite pencil because it seems best for my piece. I can fix any smearing and erase as I go. Also a graphite pencil is best for blending and and creating different mediums on the snake. As I have been drawing I have noticed that making the circles of the snake are challenging especially without a template. Shading in the different sections of the snake was also difficult because it kept smearing. One thing that bothered me was that another classmate did something very similar to my idea after I started sketching.

Finished
My piece was successful because it shows the elements of a snake but it is still clearly a lollipop. I am most proud of the shading and variation of colors on the snake because it was very hard to incorporate a pattern that might be on a snake and still keep the resemblance of a lollipop. If I could go back I would make the elements of the snake clearer and add more snake like features. Yes, my picture incorporates the theme "Two in One".
